Library Thank You!

A BIG Thank You to the 756 residents who signed our petition to keep our library in Reddish North open.

Many stated how disgusted they were with the Lib Dems' proposals and that Reddish North would have no facilities left if the closure happened. One gentleman described Reddish as "Stockport's northern desert"... how right he will be if the Lib Dems get their way again.

If people haven't yet signed our petition, we will be in Houldsworth Square every Saturday morning for the next three weeks or forms can be obtained from our candidate, David Wilson, 28 Sailsbury Street, Reddish.

To those who have already signed, again THANK YOU. We will keep you updated with our campaign.

Mine's a pint!

News from the jungle drums - We hear that someone is so unpopular that they recently had a pint thrown over them by an angry football supporter... perhaps not such a good choice after all??

A lot more soon on this! :o)

Labour's newest recruit speaks out

This week, Paul Moss, the Liberal Democrat candidate for the Denton and Reddish constituency at the next General Election spectacularly joined Labour. Today he speaks out:

The Liberal Democrats talk a good fight, but that’s all it is – talk."

"I have seen how the Lib Dems in Stockport have completely ignored local people and have helped to seriously damage communities like Reddish through their uncaring policies.

“I felt I could not campaign under the Lib Dem banner any longer and that is why I am now actively campaigning for Labour’s David Wilson in Reddish who is firmly rooted in the community and will make an excellent Councillor. I urge people to support his campaign.”

Nationally, the Liberal Democrats are a complete joke. They have not made any progress at all under the leadership of Nick Clegg and in fact look set to lose scores of seats at the next General Election. Ineffective leadership at the top, unpopular, incoherent and un-costed policies and the complete lack of the drive and ambition they had in the past means that in all honesty I could no longer be their Parliamentary candidate."

“I’m a local lad, and to have stood for Parliament here would have been an honour, but it is only honourable when you believe in the political platform you are standing on."

"Having torn with my conscience, I have concluded the Lib Dems do not have the right programme for Britain’s future and that Labour’s real achievements in government, particularly their massive investment in education and health and helping the poorest in society through the minimum wage and other measures, need to be protected against the risk of the Tories being returned to power."

"That’s why I have resigned as the Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for Denton and Reddish and have formally joined the Labour Party.”

Top Stockport Lib Dem joins Labour

MORE BREAKING NEWS - The man chosen to fight the next General Election under the Lib Dem banner has delivered a blistering attack on Stockport Lib Dem Council.

Paul Moss, who was until yesterday the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Denton and Reddish has spectacularly joined the Labour Party, as the Reddish North by-election campaign gears up.

One of the key reasons Paul has decided to join the Labour Team is the blatant neglect of Reddish at the hands of Stockport's Lib Dem Council. They have already closed Reddish Baths and now there are plans to close the library too. Given that, it is only a matter of time before the community centre is closed as well, so the whole site can be sold to developers.

Reddish Labour MP Andrew Gwynne said "I very much welcome Paul into the Labour Party. He is exactly spot on when he says he realised the Liberal Democrats care little for Reddish. Hopefully the people of this 'forgotten' part of Stockport will send a similar message on July 23rd."

Pictured above, Labour's candidate David Wilson and Paul Moss are spearheading the campaign to save our library (and to try and get our swimming baths re-opened too!)

The Candidates for the By-Election to be held on 23rd July are also now known... As well as Labour's David Wilson, there are Conservative, UKIP, BNP, Independent and Lib Dem candidates fighting for the seat.

A new school for Reddish?

Commenting on the plans for a new primary school for North Reddish, Labour's David Wilson says:

"I have listened to all the arguments for the proposed new primary school and I have to agree with Andrew Gwynne MP and local residents in their opposition to building on an old toxic dump.  This cannot be right for Reddish children either now or in the future and I would call on the LibDem Council to think again!"

Pictured, Labour's David Wilson at one of the supposedly fenced off 'toxic' areas!

DID YOU KNOW??:
  • The Labour Government gave Stockport Council £4.5 million for a new school in Reddish.
  • It was originally allocated to Fir Tree primary school.
  • The LibDems chose Harcourt Street playing fields despite BETTER alternatives being put forward for consideration.
  • Harcourt Street fields are the site of a former landfill site.
  • It was a tip before proper records legally had to be kept. No-one really knows what's in the ground!!!
  • The Lib Dem Council's own site investigation report highlights "poisons", "toxic hot spots" and "gassing" on the site.
  • The ONLY Councillor to vote against the site being given planning permission was a Labour Councillor.
  • Every Lib Dem on the planning committee voted FOR this poisoned site.
Labour wants the school; but we want it on a much safer site!!

Cleaner, Greener??

...maybe in Lib Dem fantasy-land, but NOT in Reddish!

Labour’s David Wilson says, “because I walk and cycle a great deal around Reddish, I see the litter, the fly tipping and missed rubbish collections.

Despite the Lib Dems’ slogan of cleaner, greener Reddish does not have a good street cleaning and fly tipping removal service and Stockport remains near the bottom of the league nationally.  This is one of the many issues I want to take up on behalf of Reddish people.

Pictured, David Wilson at a 'grot spot' on Station Road in North Reddish.  He has now asked for this to be cleaned up... let's see just how long it takes the Lib Dem council!!

Introducing David Wilson - Labour's local man

Reddish North Labour Party has unanimously chosen local man, David Wilson, to be the Labour Candidate at the forthcoming by-election, to fill the vacancy caused by the death of David Owen.

David is 53 years old and is a local man.

As a child he attended school at St. Mary's RC primary, Heaton Norris and St. Anne's RC High, Heaton Chapel.   He is firmly rooted in our community and has lived in Heaton Norris, South and North Reddish for many years.

He is a member of Reddish Working Mens Club and Institute on Greg Street and enjoys reading, current affairs, TV and cinema.

As an active member of the Labour Party in Reddish since 1994, David has been a community campaigner in Reddish North working alongside our local Labour Councillors and Reddish Labour MPs Andrew Bennett and then Andrew Gwynne.

David previously worked in Stockport as a postman, steel and engineering worker. More recently, he has worked as a slinger, storeman, and fork lift truck driver at Crossley Engines Ltd.

David is a GMB union member and has held responsible posts at both shop steward and branch level. He also currently holds the post of branch secretary for Reddish Labour Party.

When it comes to representing people and campaigning hard, David's experience comes second to no-one.

Reddish Euro Delight!

The European Election results were not good for Labour across the United Kingdom. However, here in Reddish North (and Reddish South for that matter), voters painted a different picture. In Reddish, as in the rest of the country, UKIP polled a respectable number of votes. Unlike the rest of the country, however, the Labour vote held up and the party 'topped the poll' by a large margin.

It was a thoroughly miserable night for the Conservatives, who may have hoped to benefit from a surge, but who actually polled a poor 3rd. For the Lib Dems it was a complete and utter disaster - coming a distant 5th place!

Putting Reddish North FIRST...

Here is a copy of our latest Labour Link newsletter, currently being delivered to over 6,000 houses in Reddish North by our team of Labour Party activists and community volunteers.
In this issue, we remember the hard work, commitment and dedication of Labour Councillor David Owen; the abysmal record of Stockport's Lib Dem Council and highlight all the work being done by your Labour MP and Councillor to make Reddish a better place to live.

Election results here last time

We thought it might be useful to reproduce the local election results from May 2008, the last time this seat was contested.

Labour             1,341
Conservative         699
BNP                     402
Lib Dem                321
----------------------------
Labour majority   642

Clearly the figures speak for themselves. Reddish people DO NOT support their shambolic Lib Dem Council, and given the complete and utter mess they've made of the town, is it any wonder? It really does want to make you question Anne Graham's poor judgement!

What have the Lib Dems ever done for Reddish?

Pictured right, Labour's Dave Wilson outside a boarded up and derelict Reddish Baths. Thank you Stockport Lib Dems!!

  • Closed Reddish Baths – against the will of the community
  • Want to close Reddish library
  • Imposed the disastrous Bus Corridor along Gorton Road, bringing traffic to a standstill!
  • Neglected Reddish Vale Country Park
  • Bungled the bid to the government for money to rebuild Reddish Vale Technology College
  • Neglected parks and open spaces
  • Can’t even keep the streets clean
  • Not so long ago, they wanted to switch off every other streetlight – without Labour exposing their plans, they might have succeeded!

Come on Anne Graham, if you’re so sure about your new party, put it to the test.

See whether Reddish people feel Stockport Lib Dems have served Reddish well!

Remembering Councillor David Owen

It was with deep regret that we learnt of the untimely death of Councillor David Owen.

David had been suffering from a long illness and sadly died on the 29th May in Stepping Hill Hospital. On behalf of all Labour Party members, I would like to extend sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to Jan Owen and her family.

DAVID WILSON - Reddish North Labour Party

Farewell David

David OwenI was extremely saddened to hear of the death of Reddish North Labour Councillor David Owen (pictured left).

David was a hard-working and dedicated local councillor in North Reddish and was committed to ensuring Reddish had a strong voice on Stockport Council. He was firmly rooted in the local community and will be missed by his many friends and comrades in the Denton and Reddish Constituency Labour Party.
